Research

At present the greatest clinical problem in men's cancer is known as hormone escape prostate cancer for which currently there is no effective treatment.

Hormone escape cancer means that the patient has received treatment but the cancer recurs and there is no control over its growth. A major role of MAC would be the funding of a basic science team under the direction of Professor Patrick Johnston linked to the Department of Urology to study new ways to beat this disease.

Drugs developed in the laboratory could be tested in the department of Urology. Belfast would be able to make a significant contribution in this area and it is only through basic research that we can hope to make real progress in this disease.
